What is ejaculatory duct obstruction?

Ejaculatory duct obstruction is the obstruction of one or both ejaculatory ducts, which prevents you from expelling semen. EDO can cause pelvic pain and male infertility.

What are the symptoms of ejaculatory duct obstruction?

EDO can cause pelvic pain, especially after ejaculation. You may notice a greatly reduced amount of semen, or none at all when ejaculating. Also, an EDO changes the makeup and consistency of your semen, which you may notice as being overly fluid or runny.

How do you detect ejaculatory duct obstruction?

If you have an ejaculatory duct obstruction, your ejaculate will be low in fructose and pH level, which your Urologist can detect with a chemical analysis.

When your doctor suspects that you have an EDO, he may order an ultrasound to determine its location.

How do you correct an ejaculatory duct obstruction?

Your Urologist can effectively treat your ejaculatory duct obstruction by transurethral resection of the ejaculatory duct, or TURED. This is an outpatient procedure performed endoscopically, with instruments inserted into your penis. First, the doctor will inject dye into your seminal vesicle. He will resect the duct, remove the obstruction and reconnect. If successful, the dye will flow freely through the duct.
